Want to find out more about me, my values and training, and how I can help you perfect your novel? You're in the right place.
Hi, my name is Laura, and I'm a freelance story and line editor who specialises in working with independent romance authors.
My editing journey started when I stumbled into a community of self-published authors and found myself trusted to do some beta reading.
My interest piqued, I started reading books on editing and story theory, and I found myself amazed at exactly how much thought and consideration goes into choosing the final words in a book, that moving one word or adding or removing a comma can change the entire meaning of a sentence. All that reading made me hungry for more.
I began my editing training in 2021 and started taking on clients later that year, and after further training in both line and copy editing and story theory, I now offer a range of services from story evaluations right through to proofreading.
Have questions? Send me an email. I'm always happy to answer questions or offer guidance.
I offer services for all stages of the novel-writing process, from the self-editing trenches right through to the final proofread before you hit publish. For further details, including prices, FAQs, and how I work, please have a look at the services and prices page.

I provide a free sample edit to make sure we'll make a good team. You've poured a lot of time, emotion, and energy into your book, and we both need to be confident that I'm the editor to make it shine. Your free sample edit will ensure your book gets the right level of editing and will let you know if I'm the right editor for you.
I appreciate that finding the right editor can be a nerve-racking process, and maybe you're wondering why you should work with me rather than one of the many other editors out there. So, as well as a professional service, reliability, and attention to detail, here's what else you'll get from me when we work together:
I've been working with independent romance authors since 2021, so I have extensive genre experience, and I've completed publishing industry recognised training specifically in editing fiction.
I don't like vague timelines or having to chase down information, so if you don't either, you're in the right place. Prices, details of exactly what's included in my services, and information about how I work are all here on the website, and all editing projects have a concrete start and end date.
Your manuscript won't be sent back to you with just a load of seemingly random suggested changes and comments saying "this is wrong." I explain my reasoning behind my changes and offer alternatives when a word or sentence isn't quite right.
One of the reasons I edit fiction is because it's creative. So I'm not about to bury your style and your characters' voices under a pile of grammar 'rules' (most of which aren't really rules anyway!).

I live in the far north of Scotland with my husband and our twins (though I am originally from Wiltshire in the south west of England), and when I'm not working, you'll find me crocheting, expanding my Lego collection, playing Minecraft, or very slowly jogging in an attempt to finally complete the Couch to 5K programme, which I've started three times!
